Teaching has been a core part of my life for more than twenty-two years, starting even before I completed my undergraduate and master's degrees at the Royal College of Music in London. During that time, I've had the pleasure of working with students of all ages and abilities, both one-to-one and in group settings. These days, most of my teaching happens via Zoom, which has let me connect with people across the world, many I'd never otherwise get to work with.
During the pandemic I had to move all my teaching online, and through the years I've learned that online lessons have real upsides. You can join from wherever you are, enjoy flexible scheduling, and play in your own comfortable space.
If you're a little unsure about online lessons, especially if you've never tried them before, it's true there are some trade-offs. We can't play together in real time, and the sound is a little different, but with the right setup, it works beautifully. Sessions can be recorded, we share notation on screen, use backing tracks, and it's become far easier to keep track of everything to revisit later.

Alongside repertoire and technique, we can work on sight reading, scales, arpeggios and improvising, chord studies, and music theory, as well as rhythm, posture, and the basics of recording your own playing.

How do I see your available time slots?

What's the cost, and how do I pay? Lessons are £55 / $70 / €65 per hour (60 minutes). Payments are accepted via Wise, or you can book and pay directly through the website. Alternatively, you may contact me at guitar.alt.school@gmail.com.
Do you take complete beginners? Yes, absolutely. I'm just as happy teaching a complete beginner as I am an advanced player. All levels of ability are welcome, as well as all ages.
Can I book one-off lessons, or do they need to be regular?
Any student is welcome to book ad-hoc lessons. That said, for beginners and intermediate players, I'd recommend scheduling regular lessons at a frequency that suits you — weekly, biweekly, or otherwise. I do have students who book ad-hoc, and these tend to be more advanced players wanting to focus on a particular technique or revisit something covered in a video lesson. Either format works well. What really matters is frequency of practice, correct practice, and having focused goals, along with consistency over time. Whatever schedule you choose, I'm happy to work around your needs.
What kind of setup do I need for a Zoom lesson? A laptop is best, since you can see everything more clearly on a bigger screen. You don't need an external microphone. While one can improve the sound quality on my end, the built-in microphone works just fine. There are a few small settings we'll go through together in Zoom to get everything set up properly.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule? I ask for a minimum of 24 hours' notice for any cancellations or rescheduling.
